Bad to cook popcorn in the microwave?
In your experience is it a bad thing to cook popcorn in the microwave? Does it harm the microwave in any way, and if so, why? Do you have any documentation you could refer me to -- I have to give a training class on this topic this weekend. thanks.

There's no question that running a microwave empty, or nearly empty (as is the case with popcorn) is hard on the magnetron. It will heat up more than it would do if there was more food in the oven. And heat kills electronic components faster.

I have run a lot of popcorn thru the microwave with no effect on the oven.
I've never seen any cautions to not do that or to even be careful doing it.
A lot of microwaveable popcorn is sold, so that's a good indication.
