Battery dead & BIOS reset. CD & DVD drives lost
IBM Desktop w/ Windows ZP. We were having some power outages, so I turned off the pwer bar. When the power was restored and stable, I booted the machine and the BIOS appears to have reset. Also, the CD & DVD drives were not visible. I also noticed that clock had reset to Jan 1, 2001, 12:00 am. I then realized the clock wasn't "ticking" while the machine was off and losing time even when running. Likely a dead battery - perhaps just a coincidence re the power fluctuations. I can't figure out how to get my system to recognize the DVD or CD drives. Suggestions ?

Ok what it sounds like is the CMOS (3v watch battery) on the motherboard has gone flat. they are not rechargeable batterys as people seem to think. replace this & them go into the bios, usulay the escape key or F1 on some & reset the pc settings. batterys are about $3, hope it helps
First you will need to replace the cmos on the system board(or have a qualified computer service tech. do it). then you will need to access the bios settings by Pressing F1 immediately after powering on the computer. once in the bios, you can set the correct date and time. Also, you will need to check the drive settings to verify that the hard drive and any CD/DVD drives are recognized. once done, then exit the BIOS being sure to chose "save and exit", then allow your PC to boot normally. this should fix your date and drive issues. if not then the motherboard may be defective.
