Battery discharging I just bought a 2005 vtx1300 and since then the battery will be discarged in about three days if it has not been running, its not one of the cheaper batteries it has a side post on it, the previous owner told me it is about a year old, the battery has a bout 7 wires connected to it for all the accesseries, and does the side post wire hook up have to be seperate from the other wires? I know I said a lot, but hope I can get some answers. why is the battery dying? thanks lou

First off, disconnect all those accessory wires, leave only the battery cables hooked to the battery. Charge the battery properly over a long time with small voltage input so the battery won't overheat and warp the plates inside. The voltage after fully charged should be about 12.75v-12.80v, when you check the battery with a voltmeter. I am quite certain that one of the accessories is drawing down the battery which is why it is dying in three days. You might want to buy a little hydrometer made for a MC battery too, so you can check each cell to make sure there is not a dead one, this too can cause the battery to go dead in three days, because it will not hold a charge.
