Battery Recharge for Liebert PowerSure PSA
Unit was beeping for 2-3 days. Found unit was not plugged in correctly to mains so assume PC was running off unit batteries. Plugged unit in correctly. Beeps stopped. 1 green power light and all running fine. But when power disconnected from unit there is no charge in the battery so no emergency power for the PC. Does this mean batteries need replacing? Should they not charge up while in use? How long does it take to charge the batteries?
Many thanks.

Yes, is the short aswer to your question. The battery should charge as you use the ups. If they don't then its likely the battery/s have failed. Lead acid batteries do not like being left discharged for any length of time. In a motor vehicle the battery gets a bit of shaking around, but in an ups they don't. If not used and left discharged, the plates quickly sulfate up reducing the efficiency to nearly zero. Test and replace any battery that cannot support a test load, such as a bright12v light or a 12v soldering iron connected to it. The length of time required to charge the battery/s depends on their capacity (in ampere/hours) and the charging rate. A 14.4 amp/hr battery charged at say 1 ampere will take 14-1/2hrs to charge.(just as a sample)
If there are a number of batteries in your bank, then it only takes one bad one the stop it from working. Load test each one and replace those that fail the test. Premium lead acid batteries have a finite life of 3-4 years in ups applications. Cheaper batteries need replacing every two years.
Yes battery need to be replaced
