Belkin Wireless router
I have been trying to set 2 laptops up with this router at home, one seemed to be ok but i made an error with the other. When told to type in the ip address 192.168 etc i typed the wrong number at the end and now it won't allow me to do anything. Keeps telling me it is already under Adminstrator...(and then the wrong ip address). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Hi,
- the two laptops are wired to the router;
- the router lights for each Ethernet connection is lit indicating connection.
Proposed course of action to be done to both laptops:
- Goto Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, Right click on "Local Area Connection", click on properties;
- Scroll down to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)) and highlight it;
- click on Properties button;
- correct IP address entries as required by your router. 1st laptop IP 192.168.2.11, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway 192.168.2.1. 2nd laptop IP 192.168.2.12, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway 192.168.2.1.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Based on your post,
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
Hi again,
Any updates?
If you jest type an IP address in explorer you do not change any settings. The fact that you typed wrong ip address in IE bar it is probably ininfluent.
Start checking network cables to the router.
Swap cables on router internet ports.
Ensure that you fully configured the router.
My suggestiong is calling your Internet Service provider phone number, often this is toll free or local call rate.
The technical service will follow you at the phone in step-by - step network configuration.
Tell us what internet service you have to get the phone number, or check the letters and emails that came with the broadband, and broadband company website.
Sir make sure that your 2 laptops have lan connectivity installed if your using cables. i just want to know what exactly your problem.
cheers

I woud suggest to restore the machine to a point prior to your attempt to set it up, and putting in the number incorrectly. Have you tried this?

Did you get your laptops set up for wireless connection? Just wanted to check on you. If you need further assistance, please post back with the OS on your laptops and the model number of your router.

Did you get your wireless working as desired, or did you still need assistance? If you still need help, please post back to let us know where you stand. Thank you for using and rating FixYa.
(General procedures for setting up a wireless network - it is not really a difficult procedure - establish the router protocol, give your network a name & encryption code, set up the connection on each machine with the same settings you gave the router, make sure each connection works!!)

Is the laptop connected to the router wirelessly? because that can be the porblem if that laptop is not connected wirelessly it wont be working, so make sure that the laptop is connected to your wireless network...
Hope that helps..............
I think it will be much easier for you to reset the router by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds so the router will be back to its deafult settings and just start from there...
