Bent shaft I shipped my Bernina 1008 over seas and now when I tighten the handwheel it "wobbles" when rotated, the belt tightening and loosening with every rotation. If I loosen the handwheel it spins fine. I live in PNG so I will have to fix it myself, but I haven't been able to find a parts brakedown yet to figure out the parts I need to order. Thanks for any help you can offer. Jahn [email protected]
Checks: 1. Grab the handwheel and push and pull to indicate any axial play on the main shaft. The machine should not have any detectable end play. 2. Is the handwheel hard to turn other than the intermittent binding due to the handwheel wobble?
Get back to me, and I'll guide you through some other diagnostics.
Please do not rate this as it is only an advisory. Your machine was dropped during shipping and the top shaft is bent. The only way to truly repair this is to replace the top shaft which should only be done by a qualified technician. Since it was shipped and it was damaged by the shippers they should be willing to repair or replace your machine. The other way is to take it to a tech who is willing to try and straighten the shaft. It will never be perfectly true again but it can be better. I really like the first way better as it is a permanent solution. sewman7
