BLACK SCREEN THE SCREEN GOES BLACK AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES ON MY DELL M170 LAPTOP.I PUT AN EXTERNAL SCREEN ON THE LAPTOP AND THE EXTERNAL SCREEN GOES BLACK. THE VIDEO CARD, THE FAN, AND THE CPU HEATSINK HAVE ALL BEEN REPLACED.PLEASE HELP. THANKS1

If the screen goes black do you still have power to the keys and dvd/cd drive?
Have you applied the heat sink paste between the fan and the processor?
if not do that
it comes along with the fan with a small layer of the heat sink paste beneath the fan.
see if this is present. if there is no heat sink paste the processor will shut down as soon as it starts.
also tell me one thing.
when the external screen goes black does the laptop screen comes ON again?? you have a function button to switch between the screens right?? are you using it correctly?
