I've got the same blinking "Err" message on the top screen of my Kodak DCS SLR/n. And camera don't working at all (menu displays only) I was thinking that is mechanical fault. But in service centre (not official because I living in Russia and there`s no official service centre that would help me) engeneer tell me that mainboard was broken and replacement cost will be about $700. So I'm buy new one. If you live in the USA you can contact official Kodak service. I believe that cost of repair won't be more than half of new one.

Take the battrie out, leave the camera alone for two days and then replace the batterie in and turn on
