Bolt hangs up
Lock is in a house on the beach, some pitting noticeable on the bolt. Bolt does not "throw" all the way using the thumb latch, but is free to move and will move the whole way if helped by grasping it and pulling. Might this be corrosion of the latch pawl or some other part inside?

Likely both. Spray liberally with rust penetrator. After it dries out some, spraying white lithium grease in it would make the lubrication last much longer.
