Have you tried soft-resetting (Volume Up + Select) while your device is connected to your computer. This worked for me as described in this post: http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=express&thread.id=1147 I'm not sure if soft-resetting while connected is precisely what does the trick. You may have to play around with it for a while. If your firmware is corrupted, getting a MicroSD card probably won't help. If you have the latest firmware but bad data is preventing your device from starting, then getting a MicroSD card may work. Since the brand issues are resolved in the latest firmware, I don't think it would matter what brand you get. (However, you may want to get a SanDisk card just in case.)
