Bosch 13618 18V Brute Tough Hammer Drill stopped working
I have a reconditioned Bosch 13618 18V Brute Tough hammer drill. I bought it as a 5-piece combo kit 4 years ago. I was using it the other day when I heard a 'pop' and saw a spark at the back end of the drill. I would consider getting a new Li-Ion drill, but I recently bought a 3rd battery and 2nd charger compatible for my combo kit, so I'd hate to see that go to waste. And a new 13618 is over $300.
Any idea what is wrong with the drill? DC Motor? While I'm in it, is there anything else that is recommended to be replaced? Brushes for example?

The motor is located at the rear of the unit - yes - but without disassembling and looking at the windings it is impossible to guess what has gone wrong.
Suspecting the motor - parts are not readily available for bosch tools. having the motor re-wound is an option if that is what is wrong... but in either case, you're looking at a repair cost of over $100.
It may be cheaper to find a good used one on eBay that may have additional accessories as well, and keep yours as a spares backup.
Here are just a couple examples...
Auction 1 $50
Auction 2 Started at $1
In the case of a bad motor - it is adviseable to purchase a known working replacement instead of repair.
Thanks!!
My suggestion to maximize your return on investment is to have Bosch take another look at the tool. Look here for a service center: http://www.boschtools.com/Service/ServiceCenterLocator/Pages/default.aspx
I dont think thre is anything serious wrong with your tool. If there is - and you have to replace it - it makes sense to replace in kind since you have the additional batteries, charger and kit.
