That could be a few things. Air maybe in the system and the brakes may need to be bled. Second you may need Front brakes. and third bad master cylinder. Hope this helps. Let me know
It sounds like you have air in you brake lines check your master cylinder to see if your brake fluid is low if not you may have a bad master cylinder you should not put off haveing it replaced check at autozone they have that master cylinder
