Brand New, Out-of-the-box will not start!
I purchased this generator on 12/7/04 from Home Depot and have never put oil or gas in it...thus never tried to start it until today. The oil is full and overflowing per the instructions, gas is fresh but it doesn't appear to be getting gas. I removed the air filter and sprayed in starter fluid which got the unit to turn over but once that gas was exhausted (15 seconds) it died again. Has anybody ever had this problem? How did you resolve this? The thing is brand, spanking new!!!! Gary Q My daad has the same problem.
We need the operating manual and cannot find it ANYWHERE !!!!!
I bought it for dad for Katrenia and never used it until the day before the Houston hurricane we are now in.
The pull cord will not start the unit? fresh gas full of fresh oil choked switch is on but no fire. What else could be the problem. Dad really needs it in that we have lost power in the north houston area even before the eye of hurricane has even gotten to us.
Please help if someone can offer a suggestion(s)
ALSO, Where is the fuel shutoff valve that I hear could be off ? This WHY dad needs the manual.
Thank you

Please give the make & model no.
Just check the followings:----
- Is the RUN SWITCH set to ON or RUN position (this is purely an
- Is the gas tank shutoff valve FULLY OPEN?
- Is the choke being set to the proper position with or without using Ether spray to the Carb?
- Does the Carb have a Yellow or Black wire coming off of the bottom
- Is the Float stuck in the CLOSED position not letting gas into the Main
All the best!"Electrical Switch" btw)? Is it working properly? Test it using an DVM
or OHM meter! It's contacts may have become tarnished just from sitting
so long?
of the Float Bowl? This goes to the GAS CUT OFF SOLENOID mounted in the
Main Jet inside the Float Bowl. NEVER CUT THIS WIRE as some people have
suggested, as there are better ways to test the solenoid without doing
that! If equipped with one - This anti-dieseling solenoid has to work
properly or else flooding will occur with the gas shutoff valve OPEN.
Jet? You might try and tap carefully on the bottom or side of the Float
Bowl
with a hard rubber hammer first to try and see if you can dislodge the
stuck Float inside. If there is a WIRE at the bottom of the Float Bowl
on your model - DO NOT HIT THAT GAS SHUT-OFF SOLENOID WITH THE RUBBER
HAMMER - as you will do damage to it! If this dislodges the stuck Float
then your problem is solved!
NEVER FORCE ANYTHING!! It's possibly that you might have to loosen the
Float Bowl slightly to see if indeed gas is getting inside to the Float
at all. If gas comes out readily but still no gas is getting into the
Main Jet and intake then you purely have a Carb issue and nothing more!
If you're not smelling gas through the air filter box then you are FUEL
STARVED.
