broken etc, and even plugging the control box directly into the pad. We couldn't find any pattern to what was wrong. It would just erratically work, then 1-2 arrows would work, then the other arrows would work, then nothing. Nothing seems physically damaged so i can't figure out what the problem is :(

You haven't specified, but this device apparently does not work with PS3 or with XBox 360, according to the manufacturer. Did you check this before buying it? Are you trying to use it with one of those two types of game systems?
