c. boat shop installed inline fuse between new 27 series battery and socket where we plug the TM in at front of boat. we blew 10amp fuse, then a 25amp fuse right away and eventually a 30amp fuse blew which is max that fits. is it even necessary to have the inline fuse if the TM is the only thing connected to the battery? i've never heard of having this sort of setup. is it ok to just eliminate the fuse and have the battery direct wired to the plug receptacle? if not, then how big of a fuse or circuit breaker is needed for that motor?

It is needed. I usually install 3 amp fuses. It sounds like you have a short somewhere. I would trace the wiring and make sure it did not get the sheath cut and is possibly contacting the boat. I always install a fuse and that eliminates the threat of a fire. There is a reason that the fuse is blowing and if you remove it then you move the problem straight to the battery and you will most likely see smoke. Also if you dont install the fuse the equipment factory warranty will be void. You really just need to check out the wiring carefully. If there is no problem with the wiring then there is a problem with the unit and should be exchanged.
