c gauges not working an i cant tell how much ac im putting in because the high pressure side is not moving from 50psi. but if i turn car off it goes up

If both sides are reading the same, the compressor is not working, or you have the gauges hooked up to the same side somehow.
The system should read what the outside air temp is until the compressor starts running.
What do the high and low sides read with the engine off ?
And then what are the readings with the engine running ?
