C turned on it will start to work. Once I shut the car off it will not work the rest of the day. Only works early morning on cold start after about 30 min of driving. I've checked all relays and replaced the dashboard control board twice with no change. Very strange. Baffled, D in Tampa

Your air conditioner is low on freon. You will need to take it to a mechanic, or service center to have it charged with the proper amount of freon. You can purchase freon and a kit to charge the system yourself, as long as your air conditioner used Freon 134 refrigerant. It is relatively inexpensive, and easy to do.
It's possible there is moisture in the system that will temporarilty obstruct the expansion valve. My suggestion would be to have the system evacuated and a new dryer installed.
