Cadillac 2005 Deville gear shift cable is good. I can see the lever move on the outside of the transmission, but inside the light on the display stays on "P" and the transmission will not engage
What you need to do is where the shift cable rod hooks up to the bracket on the trans.Where the wires are connected. This is the trans.mode switch. It tells the pcm what range the trans is in.Remove the connector and check the terminals and make sure they are clean and tight. If they are good then replace the trans.range switch.Make sure and follow the instructions that come with the part.I would get the part from the dealership. You need a 13mm socket and a 15mm socket or box end wrench.Hope this helps.Good luck.Let me know if you need more help.
Description & Operation The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components.
The park relay.
The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid.
The automatic transmission shift lock control switch.
The rear integration module (RIM).
The powertrain control module (PCM).
With the ignition ON, positive voltage is supplied from the ignition switch to the coil side feed circuit of the park relay. The RIM receives a gear position input signal from the PCM through a class 2 serial alt="Cadillac 2005 Deville gear shift cable - 7529a39.gif" />
