Calling all ford and Lincoln Masters once again I'm asking for your insight on my 1997 Lincoln with ahesitation
I have this hesitation when I just barely step on the gas pedal but when I step on the gas pedal harder it goes away this happens when the car is cold or hot I don't know what the problem is there are no codes and no CHECK ENGIN LIGHT on either in fact it just passed inspection ANY HELP PLEASE THANK YOU BILL W

Run the fault codes as the problem may not warrant a engine light
suspect a throttle position sensor may be faulty at the lower pressure from the foot
the report would be for the full sensor operation and would read as low voltage , high voltage or intermittent operation or the like. because it may be such a small section of the sensor, it may not affect the over all reading of the sensor
I suspect that the sensor will be in effect something like a variable resistor in that the more throttle applied the more power to the throttle or if you like in comparison a fuel gauge sender unit where the more fuel the higher current to the gauge to make it read full
in that case gauges wear a section of the resistance windings and over time give a false reading, the same as with the accelerator, most of the operation is in the first part of the movement and it is subject to the most wear
The whole sensor is still operational so a report may not be made, if you can see the point I am trying to suggest
A quick test would be to fit a known good position sensor and that would prove it one way or another
