I am not 100% sure but I think its actually related to the File system formated on the Camera and specifically the default block size and the physical number of Files that can be stored on the flash with it formated as default. When you look at the drive its a 64mb Flash formated in 16k blocks (crazy for a flash card of only 64mb) as this makes a ton of wasted space with a large number of files. I have experimented and it only appears that after you get a large number (>128) of files on the camera, things crash out. I suspect a poor implementation of the fat file system on reading/writing. Solution. At first I tried formating with 4kb blocks size but the camera reformats the drive after you format it. So end solution, keep your total pictures under about 119 and you will be fine, more then that and the file system on the camera barfs. Try it by erasing all files, you will be amazed at how you have your little camera back working again!
This isn't a permanent solution but it gets you going again. Press and hold down the power button (on-off button) for at least 5 seconds. Then press it again to turn on as usual. You may need to do this a couple of times but then it should turn on OK and work until it locks up again (seems random amount of time). Clearly a software bug - we're on version 3.0
I had the same problem. I called Fisher Price today, they emailed me a postage paid label and I sent the camera back. They will be sending out a new one. The very nice guy I talked to said there were some that went out with faulty battery boxes and that's the reason for the issue. I suggest you call their toll free number (888-892-6123) and have yours sent back too.
I just bought one second hand off e-bay. It came clogged up with some random peoples pix, and with the wrong lead .... Luckily I have USB leads coming out my ears (picture that lol), and I was able to restore the camera to working use by formatting it (I did full format not quick format).
Solution #2 by murman above sounds like the best response here. Makes sense to me anyway! :)
