If the car is a 2000-2003 then first of all by disconenecting the battery you sometimes have to reprogram the heater control panel. This is done by running the a/c fans on hi and temp on lowest setting, then press and hold the temp settings to hot and continue to hold 10 seconds after it reaches max, then back to cold and hold for 10 secs, back to hot and hold for 10 secs then back to cold.
If this does not fix the problem then more and likely the car is going to need a heater control valve which is located on the right front lower corner of the radiator.
In replacing the heater valve you should also take off the heater pipes (quick connect) going into the heater matric and flush the system through, the system with time gets clogged and can prevent the coolant to flow freely and can also damage the heater pump assy which is next to the heater valve.
Hope this helps
Thanks and good luck
