Can hear sounds but no voices and Music garbled
Running XP Home with SP3 on a laptop with built in stereo speakers I find that I get garbled music and when playing Videos( .ts files from my PVR) the music sounds ok but the voices are extremely weak or totally missing.
My Audio output sounds as if I am listening to the surround sound from a 5.1 system but missing the centre speech channel although i dont know if that is the problem.
My (Acer) laptop is using Realtek HD and I have checked that the Speaker setup is for Laptop stereo speakers and not a 5.1 system.
These problems apply to Realplayer, VLC, Windows Media player and BBC iPlayer. and listening to streaming music online from Last.fm.
The problem began about the time I loaded Realplayer and BBC iPlayer but even though I have removed then the problems persist.

I had this same problem and resolved it by unchecking the "karaoke" icon on my RealTek HD Audio Manager that I guess I accidentally checked the night before. To make sure that you don't have the karaoke turned on, double-click on the RealTek HD Audio Manager icon locationg in the bottom right corner. There is a karaoke icon on the top right of the window that pops up - make sure there is no "X" on the icon. If there is, click on the icon to get rid of it.
That did the trick for me, hope this helps.
Cheers
Try uninstalling your sound card through the device manager, you will get an option to delete the drivers, click no, reboot you pc and let it install automatically, this should solve the issue.
Regards Mr Scott
1 - right click on the speaker at your right side
2- choose PLAYBACK DEVICES
3 - you will see four colums up ( playback, recording, sounds, communication) >>> choose PLAYBACK
4 - choose SPEAKERS. you will see configure down to your left.
5- click on CONFIGURE >>> choose STEREO >> click on NEXT until you finish.
open your player and enjoy. :)
