On a Mac you generally have all the drivers you need built in. Would be very rare these days to download a special driver. Any drive plugged in to the USB port usually shows up. Perhaps the drive needs formatting first. Often external drives are pre formatted for PC. First...Open Drive Utility in Applications / Utilities Folder Then Plug External Drive in. It should show up in Left Column of DU Window Use Drive Utility to format & test the drive. Use the Mac OS Extended (Journled) if using with Mac files or FAT 32 if swapping data from PC to Mac & back. Good Luck
