Can i hook up my sub if it's wired to a 2 ohm and my amp is 4 ohm
I wanna hook up my 12" kicker L5 to my hifonics nx400 200 watts x 2, 400 watts x 1 bridged. its just that i read the owners manual to my amp and it said "4ohm mono bridged operated" can i still wire my kicker 4 ohm DVC in a parallel hook up to be 2 ohm? or is that bad for my amp.

Hi martineztag
You should never connect a load of an impedance less than the min the amp is able to drive. This can have disastrous consequences that may easily result in failure of the amps output stages. You need to use a different configuration that does not overload the amp in this manner for safe operation.

If your amp can drive a 4 ohm load in bridge mode, then each channel should be drive a 2 ohm load successfully. To get the best out of the single driver wire the voice coils in parallel connect to one channel and leave the other channel for another job, time to add an extra woofer;)
ONE channel of the amp used here
or some other configurations that would also work. voice coils in series, not as efficient utilisation of power available however
or using both channels of the amp driven from the same signal source. both channels driven but amp only delivering half the power it is capable of
I would go for the independent setup with just the one driver, or the parallel setup with adding an additional woofer.
Time for an extra woofer :)
@plaz.....I said "To get the best out of the single driver wire the voice coils in parallel connect to ONE channel and leave the other channel for another job" .... appears that you have misinterpreted the answer i have given. Wiring multiple drivers parallel and also series can produce odd damping factors for amps to control effectively. I would not use bridge mode with 2 drivers wired for 2 ohms then in series, I would use 2 drivers wired for 2 ohms, and one on each channel. Same power output is achieved, without the complex "harder to drive" load presented to the amp operating in bridge mode.
BETTER PUT NO IF IT SAYS ITS ONLY 4 OHM CAPABLE YOU WILL FRY IT. WIRE IT TO 4 OHMS THE PICTURE THAT SAYS SERIES. IT WILL ACTUALY BE 8 OHMS. IF ITS A DUAL 4 OHM SUB. YOU WILL NEED A DUAL 2 OHM TO WIRE IT TO 4 IN THE SERIES CONFIG. IF YOU DO PARALEL LIKE HE SAYS WITH ANOTHER SUB OF THE SAME AND WIRED THE SAME YOU WILL GET 1 OHM EVEN WORSE. WIRE THEM BOTH TO 2 OHMS WHICH IS PARALEL THEN WIRE THE 2 TOGETHER IN THE SERIES. YOU WILL GET 4
I have the same problem, after I sold one of my Solobarics, the amp can only operate at 4 Ohm in birdge mode, my solution, I hook up the amp in bridge mode to only 1 of my sub's coils, the primary (white dots) and the result, amazing sound, maybe I'll let that configuration or maybe I'll buy a new amp capable of 2 Ohm bridged mode, Regards from Mexico!!
