Although both engines are 2.4L DOHC, the gap in years will most likely mean that there will be substantial changes to the emissions and engine control electronics as well as the transmission(s). Today's engines and transmissions work together as a unit, and the ECM/PCM is programmed for optimal performance. Using a newer engine with the older transmission and PCM unit would at a minimum required reprogramming of the ECM. It would very likely require substantial changes to the wiring harness.
