When the problem is the internal battery the Navman turns on if you connect it to the charger.
If you are telling that it does not turn at all, even if connected to charger then it is not the battery.
You need to grab a Multimeter , set it on volts and check if there is 12V (allow +_0.5V) power on charger contacts.
Try pointing a torchlight near to the screen , and check if there is a dim picture, in that case the back light inverter had gone.
Try also disconnecting antenna. A short in there will cause the Nav not starting.
If there is power , then a common fault that give you no power at all is caused by broken contacts on Navman charger socket.
Instructions on disassembling are difficult to find, service manual for this unit is not available.
I think you have to remove SD card, undo screws at the back, take care of volume control and keys, and operate at top and bottom to separate the to halves of the casing. There is risk to do more damage, for example to volume control, when undoing the casing.
First plug it in and then hold down the power button until it turns on. (It should turn on within 20 seconds). If it doesn't, then it sounds like a hardware failure and you should check what you have for a warranty. If you can return it to a store, then do so, otherwise contact the manufacturer about it. I'm sorry that I can't be more help, but the reset only works if the unit will turn on. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Again like I said, since it won't even turn on, then it must be a hardware fault and requires service that only a qualified electronics repair man can provide. Sorry about that, but there isn't much else you can do.

You just have to switch OFF the navman with the button of the battery. Be careful, not with the "stand-by button" ON the navman but with the switch under the navman, near from the reset.

Try to reset..
Hold down the middle button while presing the reset.. keep holding till you see the initial screen...
