Can't get the door to latch
I can't get the door to latch. I have not used the dishwasher in over a year, if that may have something to do with it. The latch will not catch on the metal opening on the cabinet top border, which is sticking out a little in the center.

I never had this problem but here is what it looks like on mine:
There is a spring-loaded "U" shaped tongue jutting out at the top which is all the way down:
It can be pushed up and then it goes back down when released:
It fits into a cheap plastic white socket on the door:
I don't know if that is movable or not but it is so cheap and flimsy I don't dare test it.
My guess is that your tongue is stuck in the upward position. You said the center. I would try pushing it all the way down. You may just need to lubricate its hinge so it goes down automatically. It may have dried out.
Hope this helps.
BTW, there is a safety recall on this model: http://www.geappliances.com/products/rec... Enter your model and serial number to see if yours is eligible. It probably is. GE came immediately and replaced the bad circuit board in minutes. You could ask the guy to check your latch. He probably wouldn\'t charge you but it is safer to ask.
