This happened to me. Just turn the key and wait 10 mins then turn off and back on. You can do this more than once. I had to do it for about a month or less, but after that that light just stays on, but the car starts with no problems now.
Turn your key to the on position and leave it until the security light stops blinking, im pretty sure it's about 10 minutes. Once it has stopped blinking, turn the key back to the off position and then try and start. but keep in mind that this will only work that time. Chances are this will come back. If you don't mind having your security light on all the time, then try this. It's a cheap fix compared to the 500 a dealership will charge you. http://www.car-forums.com/s10/t25650.html
It maybe a cheap fix but when you need to be somewhere, you don't always have 10 mins to sit and wait. We deal with this issue everyday. It gets very annoying. I don't understand why the consumer has to pay to have this security feature disabled. I will not attempt to correct this myself. As a family of 6 we have bought several cars either Honda and Toyotas with NO PROBLEMS. We have not bought a American made car in years and most likely probable never will. The Alero only has 120,000 miles and the money I have spent on this car in the last 4 months totals more than I have spent on the other 5 cars we own in the past 2 years.
