CD drawer won't open or close or recognize blank disc
My drive D: suddenly stopped working after an intensive session of ripping and burning audio CD's.
could the problem be overheating?
Driver update needed?
Hard drive too full?

Not very likely to be overheating. CD's don't really have drivers & if it was working OK then a firmware upgrade isn't needed. Full drive won't cause the problem.
Pretty much the drive has just died. If the motor runs when you hit the door button but the tray doesn't move - try *gently* pushing the door closed. If it doesn't go - new drive.
If the motor doesn't run when you push the button, you can check to see if the power cable somehow came off but that's extremely unlikely. Most probably you'll just have to get a new drive.
If you've been in the habit of pushing the tray to start it closing, stop!! That's the most common cause of your kind of problem. ALWAYS open and close with the button.
Good luck!
