This is not a solution but...I started to have this happen to me and I found a work around. reapeatedly try - many many times and when you DO get it open, put a disc in and see if it wil open after that. Make it a disc you can afford to never see again, just in case. On my 1620, as long as a disc in is in the machine, it will open. If you close the door when it is empty, it will be VERY difficult, but not impossible.
last resort, open the machine and slip a disc in, then try.if possible.Unplug it first, of course.
Ps My machine worked great for 2 years before this started to happen.
There is a slot on the bottom of the unit. Press the open button, then use something to slide in the slot and the door will open. The book suggests a pin, but I use a paper clip. Once you have it open, leave a disc in the unit and it will continue to open.There is a slot on the bottom of the unit.
