We had a power surge that knocked out my wave radio, and the repair shop where I took it said it was beyond repair/that it was fried. My question is, can it be rebuilt or refurbishied at a less expense than a new one?

Check the service/repair guide at www.bose.com. They will repair most models for $100 - or give you a $200 credit towards a new model. Before you spend the big though, you might want to check out the new HD radios -- better sound, MUCH lower price.
