Changed out blower motor on elect furnace.the old motor had three wires one fed the compaster.new motor is revirsable has purple wire, red, blue, black.hooked up purple 1st phase, red for high 2nd phase. is this correct ?
Hmmm . you better check on that before firing it up ... normally the colored wires are for different speeds .. only one speed can be connected at a time .. usually the high speed winding is used for air conditioning and a lower speed winding is selected by a relay for heating .. ... the way the capacitor is hooked up determines which way the motor will turn .. your old motor with just 3 wires was probably a single speed motor .. normally the black wire will be connected permanantly to one phase .. the other phase then goes to the selected speed winding (color of wire) .. one goes to the starting capacitor . the others even if not connected will be hot electrically so need wire nuts to prevent shorts ..
