Changed RAM on P4M800PRO-M478, didn't work, changed back, won't work
Hi,
Heeeelp. I'm trying to help a friend by seemingly doing the simple thing of installing RAM. The motherboard is a ECS P4M800PRO-M478, and it is supposed to take DDR2 533mHz. He bought some 2Gb, and I tried to install it, but the computer wouldn't boot at all. (Ok, at first I left in the old DDR RAM, but it didn't change when I took the old RAM out). The computer didn't seem to find the hard drive at boot up. It doesn't beep, it just checks the media drives.
Then I read about this mobo, and realized it has problems. There were a couple of people who suggested upgrading the BIOS, so I went to ECS's website and successfully did the procedure to flash the mobo with the latest BIOS. The computer booted back up after I entered the date/time. Then I tried again to change the RAM to the new DDR2 memory, and no change happened. Then I tried to go back to the old DDR memory, and now it won't boot up at all.
Any help greatly appreciated. I have to leave town, and I need to at least give him his computer back in working condition.

Is there anywhere in BIOS to check RAM settings
Seem strange but try this remove everything from M/board except for memory (OLD ) and video card that is hard drives CD DVD modem and whatever and try to boot You could have something on board that is causing trouble if you start from basic and it posts it mean one of the addons is causing problems retry with one at a time fitted
If it boots with minimal vid and mem in go to BIOS and set to default
If does not boot then card probably faulty Sorry
