Changed transmission filter in an Isuzu vehicross (2001) it has a gm transmission. 4L30E
We accidentally let the transmission drop 3 inches before got it jacked up. What problems might result? Now that the job is done- we are hearing a whirring sound when pick up speed. This is new and we are afraid it is connected to letting the transmission drop.

I let transmissions hang off the engine. Doesn't matter when the cross member is pulled. If you happen to pull the transmission, And not seat the converter, the pump is broke (Wouldn't shift). What did the fluid look like and was there metal or metal flakes in the fluid? Was there metal in the pan?
Some parts in the transmission still spin when in neutral. The small slivers you found are probably from a bearing. You should not drive unless you get it to a shop. The noise will only get worse and it will destroy over parts. Time to rebuild it or replace it.
