When I plug my iPod Touch 8G into my iHome, it usually charges as well as plays music when I turn the dock on. Now I have to manually press play on my iPod in order for it to play music, and it stopped charging my iPod. I tried it with my friend's iPod Touch, and it worked just fine. However, when I plug my iPod into a wall charger or USB charger, it works just fine.
