When your mower is on an incline the oil in the crankcase flows to either side depending the angle, I would recommend checking oil levels, clunking sounds are usually metal on metal, also never mow on an incline without thinking about mower damage. skip hills if at all possible., check fluid levels, check spark plug for gummed up residue , check gas line filter for water.
