Comfort glo propane ventless heater won't light
Just got a used heater, person said it worked fine. Put new battery in the igniter, It sparks fine but won't light. Can't hear any gas coming thru. Checked most obvious on off valves to and from the gas line. Nothing obvious. Had a professional in to hook up the gas line and made sure the line is turned on.
Did we get ripped off? Or is there a way to fix it. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have several of these heaters in my rent houses and love them. The most problem I have is not being able to ignite the pilot with the user control igniter. Remove the screws that hold the front cover in place along with the front cover. Hold the pilot control down and ignite with a lighter. Keep the pilot engaged until thermocouple is warm enough to keep pilot gas flowing. If it will light this way then you need to blow out the pilot orifice. It seems that every year I have to go in after the summer season when the heater is off and clean the pilot/orifice lines with high pressure air. I believe spiders/bugs/dust block pilot orifice when it is not in use. You can also tell that orifice is blocked when you don't get a good blue pilot flame with pressure behind it allowing the flame to submerse the thermocouple. If the the thermocouple is not getting enought heat it will turn pilot gas off for safety reasons.
Most likely the oxygen depletation sensor has failed. When it fails it cuts all gas flow as a safety precaution. Because the sensor is built into the gas flow control it is not servicable and requires a replacement. These are the weak point on all ventless gas heaters and fireplaces. I have found it easier to trash the heater than to replace the failing part.
You have to turn it to pilot hold it down for one minute then push the ignitor it should light then turn it to the setting you choose and the heater will go off when it reaches the temp and come back on when it cools down always leave the pilot lit.
My solution that I have is, the comfort glow heater puts off an odor; we have cleaned it when we lite it for the winter. The heater does come on and will stay lit, but the odor is uncomfortable. What can be done about the odor?
