Compressor shuts down when warm outside
I am in Florida, and here lately when it gets real hot in the afternoon, my compressor shuts down. Outside unit fan is running, fan inside is running, but compressor wont pump. Carrier system installed in 93. Installed a focuspro 5000 thermostat and had the unit charged and then this started. I just had to install a new contactor switch this week also. Any idea what is going on?

This could be low freon which would cause a low pressure swirch to turn off the compressor. Other causes could be dirty coils (inside and out) which would reduce airflow causing high pressure which would cause the high pressure switch to turn off the compressor.
If the coils are clean, take a thermometer and measure the difference between the outside ambient tempature and the temerature of the hot air coming out of the compressor unit. There should be at least 20 degrees difference, if not it probably is low freon.
Make sure you provide shade for your unit. It may help keeping it cool.
