This sucks.. i have 2, i opened one, pluigged in and, not even worked out of BOX! it is, seemingly, doing as the above guys drive, says installed device, but, also i have found information recently about some viiruses (this stuff was in USb pworkaround on technet/ms website),and showed that people are adding something that siaables any "new" device from being read.. just lookup the recent bugs with USB storage on MS windows, there was 3, but there was fixes for this, and, this was indeed an infected PC... i am YET to test the second, boxed one.. but this is not very good, if one drive even, says it is installed, then it should not be virus atall... it would not read device atall..altho the technet bulletin is also very sketchy on info about this bug, and possibly it could be part of this new worm going about... wich also disabled and 'corrupted' Kaspersky PURE 2013 version.. it is just one box im working on fixing atm, and, was looking for asmuch info as i could about reasons why a NEW HDD would fail so quickly.. sems to me like, it is a bad make/model :s. i will try the fixes suggested in technet but really doubt it is this.. i believ it is damaged... it makes working noiose, seems like is working but nothing shows 9note this pc is still infected but, not as MUCH as before..) i will plug my second one in as, this was meant to be my 'payment' wich, was acrtually more expensive brand/model than the 1TB one, wich, i am now thinking, i should have gone for, the one i got was 320GB/Go ,and well, it was apprently 39$ AUD but really, seems like something not right with the actuual drive.. i seem to see many problems about external HDs, but, never had probs with my satas.. this is first one wich has failed, and, first one out of box to fail.. *spewing* ohwell.. lucky i kept receipt :s thanks for info Tong , but you should also read up on latest USB bugs on technet bulletins, nly 2days ago now.. anyhow, peace be with you.
Your harddisk drive is bad. The external drive enclosure is still working and still sending a signal to your computer, but it is not reading the harddrive disk. There is nothing you can do to fix this, unless you replace the hard disk itself. For the data content that is stored in this damage disk, you can recover the files by sending it to bestbuy or office depot where they will have to send it off to a recovery company where it will cause you couple of bills large. Before so, you can try to take the harddisk inside the external harddrive enclosure and test it with a desktop computer via the sata cable connections. If you still get nothing, then yes it is a 110% your hard disk drive is damaged.
