This is a long shot but you can try replacing the CMOS battery. It's like a giant watch battery on the motherboard. It's usually just used to keep the BIOS settings saved but I have seen a dead battery cause a computer to do some strange things.
If that doesn't fix it, then your motherboard is sadly broken. It's not handling power correctly, and is forcing itself to cut out for what ever reason. What happening when you unplug it is your letting the power disperse. I've had this happen to machines before when plugging in faulty hardware (like a busted hard drive)
