There are lots of little things that slow down a computer, mostly it is programs that are running, but day to day clutter can slow your computer down too. A good thing to try is to download a good program like Ccleaner or Reginout. I personally Use Reginout because i don't believe on free products. It will analyze your computer, and clean up all that it can safely clean, inducing your registry. It works well, and is 100% reliable.
Scan your computer with a good antivirus software. If the problem still persists then follow the steps:-
click on Start menu-->All Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools---> Disc Clean Up. Then system automatically check for idle files. After collecting idle files it will show you the various folders where these all idle files are stored. then select all the folders and click ok...then it will prompt you to delete all these files permanently. click on yes.....
press window+R key,a run window will apper. then type %temp% and press enter key. It will display all temporary files residing in your pc. Select all the files and delete them.
Press window+r again, n then type prefetch. A window will appear containing all prefetch files. Select all files and then delete them.
