This could be almost anything. I ran into problem possibly similar to this before and the only thing I could remotely contribute it to was a static charge that destroyed the BIOS chip. Always touch something metal like as water faucet or stove or even the metal PC case or something so you can discharge your body of any static charge you may have. Also whenever possible, wear a static wrist strap. I would first take the battery out, check to make sure your battery is good. This could also give your problem . If you dont have a volt meter then put your tounge on the battery to tell if its still good enough. You'll feel a little tingle.
Replace the battery and try a boot up again. If it boots up reset the bios settings. If it still shows the same problem. try unplugging the system then remove absolutely everything from there slots. All PCI, PCI-E, AGP, Memory , Audio, Everything! Then start with the necessity's only.... Install a "KNOWN GOOD" video card & memory only. Try that. If your problem goes away you have bad hardware. Check 1 at a time If the problem still exists I would say its either the memory or the boards BIOS chip. If you know someone with a PC that has the same memory, install your memory in their PC or vise-a-verse-a, to see if the memory or board is good. If you find someone to let you try your memory in their PC , DON'T let it complete the Windows start up. You may force their PC to need a reactivation. When you press the ON button, do the fans start to spin?
Does it boot far-enough to show the "press DEL to enter BIOS SETUP" message?
Does it start to load Windows from your disk-drive, and then "crash" or just "freeze" ?
