I'd suggest to pair or re-pair (reassociate) the bluetooth headset to your phone.
Depending on your phone, go to "Settings" and select "Bluetooth." Lock the headset and your phone on each other as a pair. If necessary, enter a pairing code in the pop up box. Generally the code is 00000. Once you have this entered, your cell phone should say, "Pairing successfully completed." When you open the boom of the Bluetooth and put the Bluetooth to your ear, you should be able to hear your cell phone.
If there is already a setting, delete and re-pair by following the above steps.
Also, be certain that your bluetooth headset and specific phone model are compatible by checking the Motorola website and find (or not find) your specific phone model).
UPDATE: Thanks for suggestions, but as I said earlier, I'd paired and re-paired, disconnected ad nauseum about 6 or 7 times and it is/was compatible....and the 2nd time with the same result was from a brand new headset, replacing the new headset so nothing with the headset Finally solution which I'm still shaking my head...took out and put back in the battery in back (soft reset) at AT&T store...this fixed all. I HAD done a Master System Reset which did NOT work and that suprised the attendant, however for whatever reason the soft reset did work. Doesn't seem logical, but at least I'm handfree again! Thanks...Hope this helps someone
Hi, my guess would be that it is a defective headset (or battery dying in the headset). I will advice you to check for a firmware update on the motorola website for your phone..
