Construction - can I use lvl to stiffen a floor... floor is structured with 2x8 the span is 16 ft across.... if I sister lvl along side of the 2x8 would that work for the 16ft span
Joists 2x8 across a 15'-6" span.... trying to stiffen and reducing the deflection
2 x 8 will not carry load at that span, minimum should be 2 2 x 12 with 1/2 or 3/4 plywood sandwiched. If you want to carry that span, you will need to know what the wight will be. I have used I joists shorten spacing to 16 inch OC. Check with I joist mfg for load ratings and specific nailing directions. I also derate the load limt that I tell customer to help preventing overload and weight distribution.
