Convertible top will not retract
I parked the car and put the top up on a 90 degree day and when I returned and tried to put the top down it would only retract, first phase, and when I press the button to lower the top the light blinks and nothing happens. Could this be heat related, an electrical problem or what.

Do you know where are the two levers on left and right side when open the tailgate? The one you open to raise the soft top from behind?
Well, one of them is not close tight enough. Open it up and close it back. There should be small click from the sensor. Sometimes the sensor won't get engaged and it won't allow opening the top, assuming it's open from the other side.
Check it out

I'm glad you got it working :)
I was there few months ago, trying to figure out the same thing. Everything was ok, from mechanics to fuses but the top just wouldn't go down. Anyway, glad it was just the Sensor and not something technical :) Enjoy your open air rides

I found out two weeks ago that the cables in my convertible top snapped and that it's a $3000 repair. I'm out of warranty by 8 months, and MINI USA said that's too far out of warranty to receive a good will gesture. I've found twenty-four postings on different websites with the same problem, so it seems the Mini has a design flaw. To make a stronger case to MINI USA and to help the others do the same, I'm trying to collect information from others who have posted about what year their car is and how much mileage they had when their cables snapped. If you've had this same problem, please send me an e-mail at [email protected] so I can send you the information I have. When I get it all collected (hopefully in the next week), I'm happy to share the information with you.
