crackling & static
Bought the pro turbo in July 08 worked perfect until 4 weeks ago. Crackling and static and no clean air odor. Called customer Service and was told to soak the blades for 20 min, etc, and 3 days later should have no problem. Problem slowed down but still no clean air odor and crackling. Shut it off at night and when put back on sometimes clean air and most times not. On hi all the time, and I have to get down to the unit to smell the clean air. I'm cleaning the blades every day. I called them today again and now it's going to cost me $29.95 to return it plus shipping to get another unit. Can't find a tel # to call the co. direct. Very unhappy, & cranky.

To stop the crackling sound, you need to remove all of the dust particles from the wire in the back. Sometimes when the unit is extremely dirty you can see sparks emanating from the wire, this is what causes the crackling sound. The unit has a built in cleaner you can lift up and down to perform this task, located on the top, but this doesn't work extremely well.
I usually take a can of compressed air and blow as much of the dust I can off the wire and all surrounding internal areas as I can. This along with a thorough cleaning of the blades should eliminate the crackling noise. Of course, make sure the device is unplugged before performing any cleaning.
Not sure about the smell though. Mine has started to smell a little strange and I haven't figured out how to fix that problem.
