If you created the actual 450gig partition the first time through you should be able to right click on the my computer icon on your desktop and select manage. In the left box select storage and expand it then select disk management. You should see a list of all disks currently installed and their partitions on the system whether they are formatted or not. From there you can select the partition and right click on it and select format.
If you don't see the 450g partition in there use the following knowledge base article from MS as a guide to create the partition using your windows installation cd. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348
Hi Mark,
Very easy, not to worry :)
Start by logging in as an administrator.
The easiest way is to right click My Computer and select Manage.
After selecting Manage, you'll be brought to the Computer Management Console. Simply choose "Disk Management" down the left side under the Storage tree. Once this is selected, your computer will take a moment and refresh it's devices. You will then see your hard drives listed.
Have a look down at the bottom half of the right pane. If you only have one Hard Drive, you should see Disk 0. You should notice that 50GB's is used [Blue if it's a normal setup, and Gold if it's a dynamic setup], and your other part will show as Black, or unused. Simply right click the Black area of the hard drive, and choose New Volume. From here you can continue on with whatever settings you wish, most likely choosing the full drive space available, and choosing NTFS as your file system, choosing a drive letter, and finishing the procedure. Your system will now show that area as Formatting, and you can safely continue to use your system in the background. Keep in mind that as you use your system while that drive is formatting, since it's the same physical disk, you may notice the system performing a bit slower, this is normal since the disk is working hard at formatting your new partition.
Best of luck!
Hi there.
Right click on computer, select manage, then select disk management, you will see your drives local disk C, CD/DVD etc, you will also see the un-formatted partition, right click on it and create a new partition and format it.
Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
