Creepy 'USB' issues
Does'nt matter WHICH USB port I plug into, it causes an immediate shut-down and reboot...what in the HELL would cause this ?
I redid entire sytem: Win-XP-Home (OEM disk) SP3, Live OneCare, 2gb Ram, 500 GB HD, Belkin internal USB card (5ports: 4 ext, 1 internal) Netgear Wireless pci adapter/card, Diamond 56k modem...nothing terribly radical. All obligatory Compaq/HP drivers (except Ethernet card) were downloaded and installed without any hassle.
I do not have the Compaq/HP restore disks available to me as this is 2nd hand machine. I am having the same problem with a Compaq D310M. When a flash drive is inserted the computer immediately reboots. I dont believe it is a short. This problem is occuring in a school computer lab and is consistant on all 28 computers. I have tried several different usb drives and always get the same problem. I tried removing the device controllers for the usb and letting xp reinstall them. This did not work. I have also installed all of the USB related patches available from HP's support and drivers site.

During setting up computer with drivers etc. System file could have become faulty some files not registered in System
You could have System file errors these files are the heart of O/S
whereas the reg is the blood if System file are faulty things do not work properly.
Go to C:\ right click properties / Tools / error check new box popsup
tick little box to fix errors and reboot
On reboot windows will check disk for errors and fix them
If this does not help please email me at [email protected]
