Danby add water cycle, water being pumped out
Thanks so much for your reply to my wife yesterday in regards to our Danby washing machine problem which is pumping water out occasionaly when water is being added to the agitator drum. Further to the problem identifed yesterday, when water is being added on any cycle and the drum gets about one third full it will sometimes start to drain. If the power is disconnected while it is draining the unit still drains until it is empty and you can hear air enter the system and the draining stops. I am wondering if some type of sypioning is happening. The washing machine drain is connected to the drainage pipe which is the same diameter as the washing machine outlet drain( 3/4 "). The connection between the washing machine drain and the drainage pipe is air tight. I would think that the pump would have to start at some point, say one third full?, during the add water cycle to start the water draining to start a sypioning effect.
I have checked for a solenoid valve and can not seem to find one. I have removed the drainage pipe where it leaves the pump assembly. With a flashlight I can see what looks like plastic impellor blades inside the discharge suide of the pump assembly. I can not readily identify a drainage valve or a seperate solenoid. The drainage pump motor seems to be a sealed unit which locks into place with two plastic tabs and has two external magnetic arms which apperar to drive the pump armature which is enclosed in the plastic pump assembly, if this makes any sense. I have removed the pump unit and reinstalled and it is completly sealed and has no exposed wire connections where I can connect a meter. I guess I could strip some insulation off the wiring but I am hesitant at this point.
I would really appreciate any additional advice that you may be able to provide to help fix this problem.

The pump acts as the drain valve. It sounds like the pump check valve is not working and you will probably have to replace the entire pump. The pump is fairly easy to replace.
Verify that the outlet from the pump goes directly to the drain hose. If so, the only other thing you can do is remove the drain pump and disassemble it to see if something is stuck in there or something. However, this is a more advanced procedure so I would recommend against it. Replace the pump.
