Deciding either "yes or no" on replacing gaskets on stored 1949 Ford F-1 pickup engine
20 + years ago I put a rebuilt Ford F-1 flathead V-8 in my F-1, but postponed further rebuilding because I had to build my house (I'm a carpenter)...the engine was not "fired" up, and it was put in my barn to rest until going further with the rebuild. I had dismantle everything right down to the frame, sand blasted frame, and started my way back up by installing rebuild tranny, rear end, clutch etc, and then the flathead V-8...it was at this point I stored her. Removed spark plugs last week and poured Marvel-Mystery oil in all cylinders... My indecisiveness is regarding the gaskets now on the engine (head, manifold, and oil pan)...will they still hold up???

If the engine has sat and hasn't been started in that length of time the crankshaft seals may leak some but only tine will tell . If the leak continues you may have to replace them .
I have used about 6oz of Brake Fluid added to the engine oil whitch makes the seals swell and has stoped the leak .
The other gaskets should be fine other than rechecking the head torque and maybe the smaller gaskets. Just make sure everything is good a tight .
Hope this helps.

Ronnie...re "crankshaft seals"...you mean the front and rear rolled-in seals, and not the gaskets to the oil pan, right?
Thnx

If you have done the job correctly you should have no problems tun the crankshaft by hand take the spark plugs out as it will be easier to turn the engine over enjoy let us know if it works
